Dutch TV Islamophobia Fabrication: 101TV busted by competing station AT5
TRANSLATION:
News anchor: If you’re wearing a burka, you can’t expect to be helped be Amsterdammers (people from Amsterdam). At least, that’s the idea you get when you take a look at the new video on 101TV’s website.
BNN’s and national TV’s youth channel puts one of their reporters in a burka to test how the Amsterdam people react to her. At the Nieuwe Dijk, she drops a bag of oranges and nobody helps her.
AT5 just happened to be at the Nieuwe Dijk as well and our recordings show a completely different picture.
Brunette reporter in video: Out of curiosity I wanted to find out how helpful people are when it comes to people in burkas
Voice over: Afterwards, the 101 crew goes to Nieuwe Dijk to test it out. In normal dress, the reporter claims to be helped by everyone, but when the burka comes into play…
An AT5 camera crew happened to be at Nieuwe Dijk that day as well and caught 101 TV’s shoot on camera.
Our footage shows an entirely different picture: people from Amsterdam are prepared to help the burka clad woman.
Voice in background (subtitled): Hajar, you can stop now.
Reporter wearing burka: I can’t help it (something), my family wears it as well. But, my God, what a difference. Nobody helps me in the street, I drop things and everyone just keeps walking.
Voice over: But the people who want to help are told by the director to keep on walking and not do anything.
Voice in background: Keep walking please, we’re recording.
Never mind, people.
Please, keep on walking.
Voice over: We also show our footage to Loco-mayor Lodewijk Ascher.
L. Ascher: That really pisses me off. Being from Amsterdam, my city is portrayed here as being utterly unhelpful, while that isn’t true at all.
The whole thing is manipulated, you see people are really trying to help, that they’re even being told not to stop because there’s a film shoot. And they’re creating this image that people in this city won’t help you if you’re wearing a burka.
I think that’s really wrong. You don’t portray our city like that. We have plenty…
